CRR
So in English class, we have been working on short stories lately. Honestly I like this better then reading an actual book.its so much shorter. One of my favorite short story that we have read would be "the secret life of Walter Mitty" by James Thurber. It's about a man who daydreams a lot. It often gets him in disputes with his wife. He daydreams Where he is a brave military Commander, Or a surgeon. He always daydreams himself as a strong well respected person to Get away from his real life. Another one of my favorite short story was the "tall tell heart" by Edgar Allen poe. It's about a man who fears the eye of an old man whom he lives with. This causes him to believe the eye is a threat and kills the old man because of this. He later hears the heartbeat of the old man which makes him feel very guilty. He confessed his crimes after going mad because he kept hearing the heart beat. It teaches the reader about having a guilty conscious and how it can turn you into a crazy person.

one class i had planned to make it on the honor role was statistics. since i first found out i had a statistics class, i honestly thought it would be easy and at first it was. i was doing extremely well until i took the final and got an 68%. this caused my average to drop from a 93% to an 83%. this drop cost me my spot on the honor role. i told myself next marking period i would make it on the honor role.

Favorite book
One of my all time favorite books is Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I have actually read this book not once, not twice but three times. My friend inspired me to read this book. She told me she related alot of the things happening in the book to her own life. So i gave it a try and im glad i did. The book is about a girl named Melinda Sordino.after she called the cops on a party, she lost all her friends. But nobody knew it was because she had gotten raped. Throughout the book melinda starts to isolate herself more. She finds a room in the school where she goes to get away from everything. To make things worst, her rapist is dating her ex-bestfriend. This and many more reasons causes her to stop speaking. This book has many lessons to teach its reader's such as "holding all your feelings inside can cause you to blow up" and "its okay to let people in sometimes ".

my passion for yoga
I have a passion for doing yoga. yes I said it, yoga. yoga is a Hindu spiritual discipline that is widely practiced for relaxation & even for your own health. I find yoga very fun to do because it can relax the body to a point where u forget all about how stressed you are. school & my afterschool program is a lot to deal with especially when you are constantly moving around doing work. o yoga becomes a big help when I get home from my program. my aunt introduced yoga to me and ever since its been part of my daily routine. I think its a better alternative to actual exercise mainly because it doesn't require as much moving its just mostly stretching and finding certain pressure points in the body. yoga can be very exciting if you actually get used to it and I think more people should think about doing it.

last week in class we read an article called "13 secrets reality TV show producers wont tell you" this article basically talks about the secrets behind reality shows. the biggest secret is that half of the actors and actresses are not themselves on camera and that defeats the whole purpose of REALITY!!! for example: they sometimes create a script for them to follow. when the producers think that the show is getting boring and they start to manipulate situations. they cut and paste scenes to make a conversation look like something its not.they instigate fights so the show can get more views. i personally loved this article because its about something i enjoy watching.

Personal statement
Till
this day, I still remember the last hug I gave my grandparents before boarding
the plane back to the United States. I wasn't ready to leave them. As far as I
knew, they were my parents. My parents sent me to live with my grandparents when
I was just four years old. Growing up in West Africa, Guinea was the only life
I really knew. Often times, my family would talk about America and how much
different it is from where we lived. But to me, Guinea was the best place to
be. I had friends and family I knew very well .To me it didn't matter that
America looked better because it had tall buildings or that the lights were
beautiful, All that mattered was that I was around people I knew and loved a
lot.
Moving to
a new state and not knowing the language spoken and even worst not even
remembering the way your parents looked was hard. Even though they always told
me I was going to leave guinea I never actually understood why. I was told in
America, life is better. "you have so many better opportunities to live a
better life" my grandmother would say in our native language. My aunts and
uncles would talk about going to college and getting a good job. At the time I
did not understand. Now nine years later, I 'am a senior in high school and
getting ready to go off to college. Everything I was told is becoming clearer
day by day.
America is
the place to be somebody. Every day you are working towards becoming somebody
in the future. Somebody who is successful. These are the things that started to
become clear to me. Since moving to the United States, my view on America was
horrible because I was so use to Guinea, nothing could top it.
In college I
want to major in nursing. Even though I ‘am still not sure what aspect of
nursing I’m interested in yet, but it’s something I have been thinking about
for a while now. I want to accomplish this because something about helping people
makes me joyful and nursing is a good career path for me to pursue. I never
thought I would say that America has changed my life for the better, but it
has. America has given me a better education then I would have gotten back in Guinea.
Of course I still think about going back. I know my family over there would
love to hear about how I ‘am getting ready to go off to college and finally
start my life. Never forget your roots and where you came from. I know I was
born in America but Africa raised me and that’s something I could never forget.
